2024 Millbrook Zucchini Festival

This year we added a bit of pomp, with Alan signalling the start of each race on his bugle.
Carving table mayhem.

Of course, it couldn't happen without all of our volunteers. Here Craig and Beryl step in to help out at the carving tables (Beryl's damaged wrist not withstanding!)

The boat races are always the highlight!

And always lots of hardware to be handed out at the Awards Ceremony...

A few surprise celebrity appearances. The Tin Man...

And the Scarecrow, to be badly pummelled by flying monkeys a bit later.

Senior prize-winning cake. Yum!

And the Junior cupcakes, equally yummy.

The Courgettes get ready to share some music.

And the slingshot.

Ben Wallace takes home the Flying Monkey Giant Slingshot prize for the junior category with two successive hits!

And Branwyn Lyttle secures the Senior trophy in the face of stiff opposition.

Joseph Keast was a big time winner this year, taking home gold for the Zucchini Boat Races, the Cooking Contest (Junior) with a killer chocolate cake and found all 15 items in the Canada 150 Wild Goose Chase Scavenger Hunt.  Go Joseph!

And John De Maria destroyed the 150 Zucchini Moose with the Giant Zucchini Slingshot (seen here cobbled back together for others to try to do the same sort of damage.)

What would the festival be without pipers? Nick Lasch and his student Livia Muir pipe the zucchinis up to the pond.

The Lions Club guys kept us all fed.

Because of a dry summer the creek was shallow and treacherous for this year's race.

The trebuchet was once again in action across the creek.
And our very brave trebuchet target suiting up!

Of course it is all about the boats, and here is two year old Amelia's with three generations backing it.
What is this man doing?? (The backstop for the boat races after the finish line is passed.)
Ted Hodson of Millbrook built us a zucchini trebuchet (a medieval siege engine) this year.
Here it is in action against invading zombies.
Here are the zombies close up. They were also the target of this year's slingshot…
And looked like this when the slingshotters were done with them! Millbrook zombie-safe for another year!

2011 Millbrook Zucchini Festival

Avery Morris, 2011-12 Poet Laureate. ( We had no adult poem entries in 2011,  but Avery's was considered good enough to win this prestigious recognition! You can read it and other zucchini poetry here.)
Blind Dog George with front man Geoff Taylor provides the day's soundtrack.

More Blind Dog George.
Ooooo, that's cold! Zucchini bobbing - always a hit.

Guiseppe Carraro (2010 winner also) registers his winning 31 lb. 4 oz. zucchini.
