About Our Festival

A Brief History
The Millbrook Zucchini Festival began in 1996 to help promote the Millbrook Farmers' Market which at that time was operating in the area adjacent to Needlers' Mill. In time that incarnation of the market came to an end but the festival continued sporadically over the following years. In 2005 a group of community volunteers met and decided to reinstate the festival, and since then it has been an annual event, continually growing in popularity.

A Green Festival
Like the vegetable it celebrates the Millbrook Zucchini Festival strives to be as green as possible. All the decorations for the zucchini carving table are bio-degradable, we encourage recycling at the event, feature a latex-free environment and compost all zucchini remnants at the end of the day.

An All Volunteer Festival
The festival could not happen without the steadfast commitment of a core group of volunteers. Countless others donate their time and energy on the day of the festival, not to mention our musicians who also donate their talents year after year.

A Community Event
The Millbrook Zucchini Festival is a community event, for and about the members of our municipality and surrounding areas. The financial help of the Municipality of Cavan Monaghan helps provide us with the incidentals needed to put the festival on. And the unflagging support of our local newspaper, The Millbrook Times, does a wonderful job of spreading the word.
Various community groups also participate in the event, including The Millbrook and Area Garden Club with their annual plant sale, The Millbrook Judo Club, who provide food and refreshments as well as The Old Millbrook School Family Centre. The Millbrook Community Garden helps grow zucchinis for us as do other volunteers in the community, and we are also partnering with the Needlers' Mill Group. And Farmers' Dell in Campbellcroft has been a terrific supporter, donating a load of zucchinis every year for our festival.
